There are several options for installing Git on macOS. Note that any non-source distributions are provided by third parties, and may not be up to date with the latest source release.
- To fully learn Git, you'll need to set up both Git and GitHub on your Mac. Both are long you've been programming, and what tools you've installed, you may already have Git on your computer.
- Unleash GitKraken, the free Git GUI for Windows, Mac & Linux! This intuitive Git GUI simplifies and streamlines Git processes.
- GitHub - BoostIO/Boostnote: A markdown editor for developers on Mac, Windows and Linux.
- Atom was developed by GitHub as a text editor.Facebook then developed the Nuclide and Atom IDE projects to turn Atom into an integrated development environment (IDE), but development stopped in December 2018. Like most other configurable text editors, Atom enables users to install third-party packages and themes to customize the features and looks of the editor.
Homebrew
Install homebrew if you don't already have it, then:$ brew install git
Edit global git config file with /.gitconfig and set editor using code name. In my case it looks like this: core editor = vscode –wait. Git config –global core.editor 'vscode –wait' Save file & restart terminal window. Now you should be able enter commits descriptions using Visual Studio Code! Hope this helps!
